Birth Mother Alicia shares her experience with Open Adoption, which she calls an amazing opportunity.
Adoption Connection's Co-director, Randie Bencanann, (now retired) was quoted in this moving personal story written by an adult adoptee.
"Sometimes, when I confirm that my family and I are not estranged, the person questioning me will visibly relax, as if consoled to learn that I genuinely love the people who raised me. But what if I had another kind of story to tell? Suppose we had conflicts we couldn’t reconcile, as many families do? Suppose I was angrier; suppose we weren’t in contact; suppose I didn’t even think of them as my family any more?"
We have a last minute spot in our Preparing for Adoption Workshop this weekend on Saturday, March 9. This workshop is for a couple or individual who would like to take a deep dive into open adoption and/or fulfill our educational requirement for their homestudy. Sign up today!
Congratulations to this amazing family who finalized their adoption of adorable JacQuelyn just a few days ago. A very special Valentine’s Day present.
Congratulations to Jennifer, Craig and baby Evan on their adoption finalization last week.
What is cuter than a picture of a baby? A picture of a baby in an Adoption Connection Onesie! Thank you Megan and Abe for letting us share these adorable pictures of your daughter.
"All my life, I heard people exclaim to my dad, Isn’t it wonderful your daughter got your beautiful blue eyes? To which he would respond, Yup, they sure are pretty. And Angela got her love of reading from her mom. My parents’ desire to make us all feel included was effortless. I knew I belonged in my adopted family and relished in those non-genetic comparisons. I clung to them."
As we wrap up 2018, we wanted to congratulate a few of our families who recently finalized their adoption. Congratulations to Brett and Jen, Joseph and Lauren, and Terry and Alecia. Happy New Year!
It’s never too late to reestablish contact between an adopted child and their birth mothereven if your child’s open adoption started off less open than you thought it would be. In most cases reestablishing contact will mean more than you realize to both your child and their birth family.
The On Your Feet Foundation, California's 11th annual gala is Sunday, October 14th at the Presidio Officer's Club from 3 - 6 pm. The work that they do is so important to help birthmothers--giving them a voice and support through retreats, educational grants, therapy, and various empowerment initiatives. Their services make crucial life changes possible. If adoption has touched your life, and you're able to give back to help birthmothers who placed children for adoption, this is a fantastic organization.
