Good morning friends! FYI, Sacramento county is still in the purple tier, meaning we are still not allowed to have classes in the studio. Don't worry, I will be sure to let everyone know as soon as that changes . We have lucked out with the weather for the most part on Saturdays for our classes in the park. We've also had some new people join, so it seems a good time to review our guidelines:... Please wear a mask as much as possible. If you need a break from your mask go ahead and take it, but remove yourself at least 10 feet from others while doing so. Bring water bottle, and a percussion instrument whenever possible. Parents/observers, please stay at least 20 feet away from the concrete pad during class. If you're not sure how far this is, take ten long strides and that should be pretty close. No chair or floor pad required, but wear athletic shoes. All week we are doing Maculelê, so bring your sticks! Every capoeira student should be building their musical instrument collection at home and practicing the music regularly. For those that might not be familiar, here are the main capoeira instruments, and where you might find them to buy: Berimbau. This is the big bow with the gourd attached. Difficult to find, not recommended to buy online. We make ones occasionally if commissioned. Pandeiro. This is a type of tamborine. You can find nice ones online, or cheap little ones at local music stores including Kline's Music on Sutterville. Agogo. This is the double bell. Can be found online or occasionally at music stores. Atabaque. This is similar to a conga drum, and they are used interchangeably. Easy to find expensive nice ones at music stores, recommend pawn stores to find a good deal. Remember, in addition to our Saturday classes in Land Park, we offer classes through the week online. Please see our calendar for all the details. Let's keep that training up folks! Axé!

We WILL be having adults/teens class in Land Park tomorrow, starts at noon, maculelê and batucada so bring your sticks and instruments! Happy 4th of July!
We have in-person, distanced and sanitized, class at the studio tonight! Kids 5:30, adults/teens 7pm Drop ins are allowed but rsvp to insure a spot because space is limited Axé!
Exciting news: we are allowed to reopen the studio and have in-person classes again! That being said, we are not rushing to restart all our classes, and we are taking precautions to make it as safe as possible. Here's the situation... This week we will be on the same schedule as before, but starting next week on the 22nd our Monday kids class and teens/adults class will be in-person at the studio at our old times (5:30-6:30pm for the kids, 7-8:30pm adults). The kids class is ...for 7 years old and up. These classes will be taught by Professora Força. All participants must read and agree to the guidelines (parents please read and explain to your children). For our classes we will be spaced 10 feet apart in 6 foot boxes outlined on the floor for each student (see photo). Space is limited and participants must rsvp with me. Additional guidelines for capoeira students: bring your own musical instrument. Pick a box towards the back of the school and walk around the other boxes to get there. Do not step in any box besides your own. A touch-less hand sanitizer is on the way but not yet arrived, so please wash hands before and after class on your own. The rest of our class schedule will remain the same, i.e. Zoom classes and the Saturday class in the park. Guidelines in comments below. Thank you, and I hope to see you soon! Axé!
