By refusing to hold Marjorie Taylor Greene accountable for her actions and words, Republican leaders have given license to even more extreme and unhinged actions by this fringe Member this time targeting the trans community and one of my colleagues' daughters. Greene could never hope to possess even a fraction of the courage and grace it takes for trans people, like Marie Newman’s daughter, to live as their authentic selves. It’s time to stand up to this repugnant bigotry.

Republicans have a playbook when they lose an election: voter suppression. In Georgia, after losing the presidential race and two Senate seats, Republicans are trying to rush through changes to make it harder to vote, specifically targeting people of color. Instead of working to expand their party and outreach to all communities, Republicans instead howl about stolen elections and nonexistent voter fraud. And that means they feel they have to shrink the voter rolls and make i...t harder to vote. In Georgia, Republicans are trying to eliminate early voting on Sundays, when most Americans aren't working and able to get to the polls, but also when Black churches hold "souls to the polls" voter drives to increase turnout and participation in our democracy. It's truly despicable. In Congress, we're fighting to eliminate these efforts at voter suppression, and plan to pass H.R. 1 in the coming weeks. We're working to expand vote-by-mail options, make Election Day a national holiday, eliminate the gerrymander, limit voter roll purges, require states to offer same-day voter registration, require states to hold early voting, automatically register voters, and much, much more. And we are going to restore the Voting Rights Act by passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. We should all want more people to participate in our democracy, not fewer, no matter who they vote for.

Today is the day we’ve all been waiting for for four long years Election Day. And as voters stream into polling places to make their voices heard, I want to thank you for all your encouragement and support during these very trying times. Through thick and thin, and from difficulty to difficulty, I drew strength and inspiration from all of you. I drew inspiration when, after that devastating Election Night four years ago, you woke up, not in despair, but with determinati...on. I drew inspiration when you marched in the streets of Los Angeles and Washington, DC and a thousand other places on the day after Trump’s inauguration to show him your power. I drew inspiration when you protested Trump’s unethical, immoral, and, yes, often unlawful actions and executive orders. His discriminatory Muslim ban, his shameful decision to put kids in cages, and more. And I drew inspiration when you mobilized, scored victory after victory, and even flipped the House. Because you never gave up, I never gave up, because when you fought back, I fought back. Inspired by your activism and determination, we were able to hold Trump accountable, stop some of his worst abuses, and protect the rule of law and our democracy. We were able to impeach him and expose his corruption for all to see. We were able to get trillions in relief to tens of millions of workers, families and small businesses, even though Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell have since blocked further relief. We were able to pass hundreds of progressive bills to protect and expand our healthcare, to address the greatest threat of our lifetime, climate change, and to protect our democracy. And if we take the Senate, they will be resurrected from Mitch McConnell’s graveyard. If we defeat them today, we’re going to be able to make real, lasting progress hard-fought and hard-won for you, the people. We will be able to use science and fact to defeat this virus and bring back our economy, saving countless lives and providing an economic lifeline to millions of struggling families and businesses. We can begin to reverse the immense damage that Trump and congressional Republicans have done, and make progress that will be irreversible on healthcare, on climate change, on voting rights, on systemic racism, on the economy, on COVID-19, and on our most basic civil rights. None of this progress will be easy, I’ll be honest with you. And the challenge is growing more immense by the day given the incompetence of this Administration’s response to the pandemic. But we must start, and we must do it together. That’s why I’m running for re-election to continue the fight we began four years ago, to right the wrongs, and to make real, lasting progress. For you.
