Dear AADUSD Families, I hope you and your families are doing well. I want to thank you for your patience as we adjust to the dynamic flow of information we receive from the county and the state on a weekly and sometimes daily basis. We have received the long-awaited news that elementary schools in Los Angeles County may now reopen for in-person instruction. The adjusted case rate in LA County has fallen below 25 per 100,000 for a period of 5 consecutive days as of Februar...y 15, 2021. This was the threshold set by the Department of Public Health in order to expedite the return of students to elementary schools across the state. It is important to understand that there is no standardized approach to the reopening of schools even locally. Conversely, the County does not view our geographical area or small population as an exception to the guidelines set for all districts that are in Los Angeles County. We will submit our COVID-19 Safety Plan on Thursday, February 18, 2021. We expect to receive a response from the county and state within 7 days of our submission. In order to meet all state and county requirements prior to reopening, schools we will do the following: 1- State’s COVID-19 Safety Plan and post to the District website. 2- Send COVID-19 Safety Plan to the state’s Safe School for All team for review. 3- Send COVID-19 Safety Plan to the LA County Department of Public Health for review. 4- LACDPH Reopening Protocol for Schools for each individual facility that is reopening, post on the district website and send to LACDPH for review. 5- Negotiate the impacts of the Safety Plan with the associations on any aspect of the plan that impacts the terms and conditions of employment. I look forward to the support of our teachers, which is a critical component of our ability to reopen our schools. My number one priority is returning students to school as soon as possible. We have already opened the doors for in-person instruction for our students with unique needs in preschool, transitional kindergarten, and students in our special day class at Meadowlark Elementary School. With the submission and approval of our plan, we would safely be able to return students in grades K-6. VHS Senior Kemp Wyatt Fairbanks was accepted into West Point Military Academy! Kemp went through a rigorous interview process in which he met with Congressman Mike Garcia, and military panels as well as going through an extensive physical. Kemp was 1 of 28 seniors the Congressman nominated in the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys and additionally was 1 of 2 'primary nominations' the Congressman nominated. Kemp is going to major in American Politics and will leave for West Point this summer following graduation from VHS. #GoMustangs #VHS #AADUSD
