Happy New year and welcome to 2021! Give me if you are thinking about resolutions and goal setting for the year to come When setting any of your physical goals this year, your brain and nervous system is the boss/ queen . This is everything! Whether your trying to get a new skill a gym, gain more muscle, loose weight, be happier... your brain and nervous system hold the I will be going over this in more detail on my LIVE IG today at 2pm P...ST. Here are some ways to maintain a healthy nervous system to meet your goals: 1 Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate your cells and nerves need to stay hydrated for optimal function 2 Avoid processed food and sugars which cause inflammation in our tissues and mess with your gut microbiome leading to pain and poor immune response 3 Move your body to constantly flush and improve circulation through your nervous system so you don’t get sticky . Research shows that going on a walk can be more effective in reducing chronic pain than taking an anti- inflammatory. 4 To increase flexibility, work your Activated Core! Yes strengthen your core for more flexibility. Your nervous system’s job is to protect you so if your core is weak, your hips and shoulders will tighten when your core is strong, your hips and hamstrings will let go. Pretty cool huh?! 5 STRESS- emotional or physical will send your body into flight or fight. When you go into this response it takes about an hour to return to baseline. if you continue to do things to trigger this response such as, doom scrolling through Twitter, watching too much news, participating in toxic conversations or relationships- you will be in fight or flight limbo. practice creating healthy boundaries in your relationships be discerning with your time and energy on social media spend more time laughing and having meaningful conversations with loved ones. What are some of the some of your resolutions this year? #activatedpt See more

A few tips on how to stay healthy this holiday season and build a few good habits to take into the new year If you stay ahead with some of these tips hopefully you can avoid a flare up! plan ahead to not load your nervous system be mindful during long car rides or running errands. Pace yourself and remember you can do your standing nerve glides literally anywhere... sitting inside your car, find a curb to put your heel on. ... take at least a few times during the day to mobilize your spine this will help redistribute nutrition around your joints and help reverse sustained postures... cat camel, back extensions, child’s pose plan your workouts ahead of time and don’t forget your warm up set a goal and make sure you are leaving enough time to perform a dynamic warm up and cool down plan your meals ahead of time and stay hydrated. This will help not overeating and will allow you to indulge in festivities without overdoing it leave plenty of healthy snack prepped ...cucumbers, avocado, sweet potato, make sure to add a big salad to your meal in the middle of the day My goal is to start journaling more this year and increasing my cardio. What are some goals you have and which of these tips can you relate to needing the most? #activatedpt See more

Feeling like sharing a little Magic this Monday! I had some major organizing on my to do list this weekend. It felt so good to declutter and reorganize boxes I’ve had sitting in my office for weeks now What does this have to do with Physical Therapy?... Well, only a little. I found this @magic.allstarscheer award and got all the feels. This Magic award will always hold so much value to me. Coach Troy and Keri truly brought out the best version of my high school self and propelled me on the path to success because of it. Working with the talented gymnasts at @azariangymnastics reminds me of these fun days and of the dedication and discipline it takes to be a competitive athlete. Im so impressed by their participation and intrinsic interest they have shown with the injury prevention program. really having a full circle moment here, bear with me Take home points: De-cluttering and organizing is therapeutic Bonus, is I got to take a trip down memory lane Injury prevention= good Happy Monday and stay Activated this week #activatedcore #activatedpt See more

Happy Physical Therapy month friends! . From an early age watching my mom battle her chronic nerve pain condition #CRPS, I knew I wanted to be a healer. At the peek of her acute condition she was in a wheelchair for one month. Doctors did not have much knowledge about the condition as they do now and no real intervention options. . To say I have been fascinated about how to heal the nervous system, my moms chronic pain condition and all of my broken g...ymnast/ cheerleader ailments is an understatement! . I feel beyond lucky after a TON of school and post graduate work later, I became a Doctor of Physical Therapy that specializes in the manual approach to PT. . My favorite part of being a PT is empowering my patients as to the why they are experiencing pain and giving them tools to overcome and prevent it from occurring. . We should never be scared of our pain. Pain sucks- but our bodies are amazing. Finding a good PT along your journey will save you a lot of grief, time and pain. . Share your favorite PT recovery or experience . #activatedpt #ptmonth #creategrowthtogether See more
