Our great herding club is pulling off a fine socially distanced trial this weekend. Go San Pasqual Valley Herding Club! Everyone, literally everyone, is taking... good care of each other by wearing masks within 6ft of each other, not parking too closely, bringing their own chairs food and water! Many thanks to those helping spray down the gate handles, pooper scooper handles and restrooms, and even pens (thank you Malory Knezha Ccft!) ... and making our naturally distanced dog sport as safe as possible. Thank you to Terry Parrish for setting an example by socially distancing at lessons so the measures required at trial were not a shock and everyone feels safe. The outside hand washing station is perfect and thank you for the porta potty with the hand washing station inside! Donna White, our trial secretary, had everything organized and ready with ribbons and score sheets in ziploc bags to take home. It’s hard not to gather for awards and celebration...but it’s been GREAT being with friends. (special thanks to Krista Koehler Thomas and Suzi Stone for scribing, timing and score sheet running all day, the fabulous stock setters and Huge Shoutout to Eddy Aldridge for his donation to the Clubs trophy fund for a year end Award...thank you Eddy!!!)

(Video is 3:42, and part I was so happy with starts at about 1:20) Yesterday Bill came out with me early to the ranch to see Winston work sheep. He saw our Pip... work in the early days and a few trials with Winifred...but it’s my thing, not his. So I was thrilled he wanted to come! Since we are only working in the field away from others these days, it was a perfect time to have him actually walk with me and see Winston work (and think) up close. He loved it! It was also a great day for Winston. Terry had us over the hill working in a much larger area now that the neighboring farmers fields are harvested. Working on a Slow/Steady behavior, as well as a more serious Out. But the highlight of the morning was taking the sheep back home. A lightbulb went off for Winston and he started to truly manage the group on the road...without my commands. I’m so glad Bill got to see it, because it’s that kind of independent thinking and responsibility that herding dogs develop, that hooked me on herding!

We’re getting close to hosting our FUN DAYS again!! Challenging courses for all the intrepid herding folks!!
