This is a fantastic article from our favorite magazine "Piecework". I have quoted it a lot over the years, and I was so happy to find it again so I can post it for everyone to read! Little did husbands know that the peers of their wives were having important political conversations in their innocent looking little magazines...

These sweet, hand embroidered baby bonnets are the work of a Latvian embroidery artist who sells her work on Etsy. The fabric is linen and the bonnet is embroid...ered with wool thread. Just perfect for cool days to keep babies warms and then in Summer, to keep them cool. Image courtesy of https://www.etsy.com//linen-baby-bonnet-with-embroidered-f #embroidery #babybonnet

This baby's dress - which would have been worn by either a boy or a girl - dates to Spain and was made in the 1700s. The embroidery features orchids, tulips, sp...ring flowers and strawberries. It's been embroidered in coloured silks and goldwork. The dress came from a collection formerly kept at Hampton Court Palace. This baby dress was almost certainly remade from an adult garment. Embroidery of this calibre and with the use of luxe materials was expensive at the time. When larger garments or household accessories became irretrievably soiled or damaged, it was common to remake them. The dress was sold by https://www.liveauctioneers.com//25267796_a-babies-dress-e #remade #babydress #18thcentury
