Great visual information regarding making eye contact... . #Repost @healthiest_baby with @Rep0stApp ... Eye contact is very important to a baby’s growing brain and social and emotional growth. It’s important in many ways for babies. It’s how we connect and communicate. Making eye contact boosts learning and communication skills. You can actually boost your baby’s brain development by making eye contact. Studies show that when a baby makes eye contact with his parents, their brain waves synchronize and a child’s social learning is improved. TIP: Take a few minutes several times a day, put aside distractions, and make eye contact with your little one. BUT NO GUILT for the time you devote to yourself or other real-world demands. Just sprinkle eye contact into your usual activities, like during diaper changes. Young babies may only maintain eye contact for a brief moment. You can’t force it. It’s best to try and connect when your baby has a full tummy and is well-rested. ? Want more trusted baby answers? Get one bite-sized chunk of parenting advice each week in your Inbox. Friday Food for Thought: Self Talk: Also called Narration. This is a simple task you can do daily with your baby. What does talking aloud to your baby help with? Increased verbal exposure of language Shows how we connect our words together in conversation Your actions are paired with the words you are saying so context can be learned ... ...and so much more! Food for Thought Friday: Pause in anticipation. You may be presently surprised when your child responds back...verbally/gesturally. Try these games... Play peek-a-boo say: ready, set... pause before you say go... sing nursery rhymes and wait a few seconds before you sing the last word of the phrase (i.e., head, shoulders, knees and ..........) Happy Friday!
Food for Thought: When communication with a person who stutters, you may get the desire to help them by finishing their sentences and filling in the blanks. Rather, it may deter the person from wanting to communicate and ultimately shut down. Instead, try listening and giving them that extra time to be able to express, in their own words, what they want to say. Listening goes a long way.
When you own a speech therapy private practice and like chickens the two passions become inseparable. Thank you to my current SLPA intern , Sarena, for the custom-made mask! . . . #speechtherapy #privatepracticeslp #slpa #chickenmask #chickendecor #chickenmama #crazychickenlady #speechlanguagepathologist #slpeep #slplife #speechielife #ilovespeechtherapy #ilovechickens
Most of our clinicians are back to seeing our friends in person for speech therapy but we do still offer virtual sessions. We have options now to help with potential cancellations ...transportation issues, family member not feeling well, time constraints Switching to a virtual session helps prevent regression due to gaps in service It’s great enrichment for the little family members that want to join in the virtual session... We love our ACCESS Speech Therapy Families!
Food for Thought: Only 7% of our communication is verbal. That means that 93% of our communication comprises of non-verbal ways we communicate...facial expressions, gestures, posture, tone of voice, etc. Be mindful of the whole pictures how you are communicating.
When we provide choice questions, we are providing models of the potential target words for the child to imitate. For example, "Sammy, do you want the airplane or the truck?" The child hears the potential targets: "airplane" or "truck". Open-ended questions like, "What do you want to play with?" can be harder because it's requiring the child to recall and retrieve a word from memory. - my toddler talks.com
