ONLINE HYBRID COURSE We submitted a request to the Orange County Sheriff's Department to implement an online hybrid CCW training course due to the COVID-19 crisis. This would allow initial and renewal applicants to complete the classroom portion of the class online to alleviate the exposure to a group environment.... Many other organizations conduct courses this way, including the NRA, USCCA, and CCW providers in other counties. STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES!

NALOXONE INJECTION Nasal spray is a more popular method of administering Naloxone to counter opioid overdoses. It’s also one of the easiest delivery methods. So, what are the benefits of Naloxone injection vs. the nasal spray? I had a student ask how we’d administer Naloxone to a patient that had nose trauma or excessive bleeding from a fall after suffering from an overdose. This is a very common thing. Keeping in mind that we clear and maintain the airway first, the Naloxone... injection is a great alternative to nasal Spray. Of course, there are pros and cons for both. The upside to the injection method is the cost. Out-of-pocket cost is about of the cost and you can provide an injection in the event the patient has facial trauma. Studies have shown quicker response by injection as well. The downside is the ease of use as far as preparing the syringe, but that can be overcome with training. We want to make the public aware that this avenue to administer Naloxone is out there.

If you recently took an American Red Cross course, the new online learning center is experiencing some technical challenges and digital certificates are being delayed. Although out of our control, we apologize for this delay. Some of these technical issues include: instructors names missing, courses missing from drop-down list, and certificates generated as a blank page. Red Cross is working on this.

Orange County CCW Update: As many of you know, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department has made an update to their policy on modifications. We received an email this morning that the CCW page has been updated. A significant observation is below on magazine capacity. From OCSD:... MAGAZINE CAPACITY The CCW license does not define magazine capacity, just the firearm model, serial number, and caliber. If the magazine and firearm are legal to possess in the State of California, and the firearm is approved to be listed on the license, a CCW permit holder may carry. More information can be found at http://www.ocsd.org/about_ocsd/services/ccw

Effective immediately, the OCSD CCW Licensing Unit will be implementing the following changes: Modifications are allowed for CCW listed handguns so long as the gun and all parts/modifications are legal in the State of California. All previous restrictions on modifications to slides, triggers, cerokote, etc. can be disregarded. See DOJ Guidelines for further info. -The responsibility for the legality of firearm and it’s parts/accessories lies solely with the owner/applica...nt. -Any violations or failure to adhere to state laws/regulations will result in immediate suspension and/or revocation of license. -Max capacity restriction of 10 rounds for magazines still applies. -Listed handguns must still be concealable on one’s person or reasonably sized bag/purse. -The gun must be registered in the State of California. -Can be registered to the applicant or spouse/domestic partner. -Must be DROS (FFL A&D check outs are not acceptable).

California Assembly Bill 503 did not pass out of committee. Democrats blocked it. AB 503 would have allowed CCW holders to carry a weapon in their house of wors...hip with the permission of their house of worship. It failed on a party-line vote. The rigged California legislature does not care about your safety while in your house of worship. CRPA has a memo available about the law of guns in places of worship, and offers training the officials. See more
