Recently helping a new client we determined that his previous broker applied only $ 75.00 of the $ 500. that the client gave to the broker towards the policy. The broker pocketed the $425.00 as their undeclared broker fee!! Nothing in the agents paper work listed the fee and insured thought the policy was paid in full as the brokers quote showed the total policy cost was $ 500.00!! We later discover the old broker did the same on 3 other policies for the same client. Thi...s new customer has transferred his policies to us at no cost to him and we are working with the insurance company on fixing this clients problems. Do yourself a favor, get everything IN WRITING before and after the sale.Never negotiate or commit over the telephone with verbal "agreements". Your agent /broker should be providing you with copies of all quotes, policies, changes, bills, everything you signed, receipts for payments and all costs and fees should be itemized completely. Don't get ripped off like this client. Call us for insurance or to fix problems with other agents/brokers.

Here's a helpful note to anyone insured: Remember to notify your agent of any "Material" changes to your insured interest such as home, auto , business etc. "Material" changes are changes that matter or will affect your coverage. In other words if you purchase high value items such as jewelry or entertainment items make sure your home agent is aware of your upgrades or your coverage may be very limited. If you sell your vehicle and purchase another be sure and notify your agent. If you have a business and your operations change from what you originally wrote the policy, be sure and let your agent know of the changes. They can just call the carrier and have your business description updated. Without updating the description of your insurable interests you run the risk of having no or less coverage in place in the event of a loss.
