A Bark Idea 28.03.2021

Sunday’s are for waking up to the cutest chin rest ever from my rescue dog Copper. A chin rest is exactly what it sounds like, when your dog comes over to you and either puts her chin on you or next to you. My heart melts with chin rests. I think it is your dog communicating wanting to be close to you. Enjoy your dog & enjoy your Sunday

When training a dog, this is the type of face I’m obsessed with! Look at his mouth (open and relaxed) ears (attentive) & most importantly eye contact! Bryce is focused on me, yet relaxed during our training session. A dog that feels safe & relaxed is not only going to retain his training, BUT ALSO BE EAGER TO TRAIN AGAIN! Bryce is with me for the weekend to work on his manners. In the middle of practicing down/stay I snapped this pic, because I want everyone to see what training a dog should actually look like. Get in touch with any questions. Happy training

Did Ziggy (multi color) & Leo (red) just become best friends?! YUP. Dogs typically like to play with other dogs who are around the SAME AGE. This is very important to keep in mind when setting up play dates. Get in touch with questions!

How Tank & I felt being reunited! The last time I watched this handsome squish face was two years ago! Every time I pick up a dog for boarding, we are SO happy to see each other that I just want to wiggle along with them I’m not sure how we got so lucky to have dogs as our best friends, but I thankful for them every single day! Happy Friday!

This video is so special to me & so heart warming Rika as you can see was so nervous of other dogs. This why I ALWAYS encourage my clients to go at their pups pace. If I had rushed Rika meeting new dogs, she would have been traumatized.. We live in such a fast world, with instant gratification. When it comes to our dogs however, we need to slow down & meet them where they are with training, socialization, and new dog introductions. Get in touch with questions! Happy training

Did little Edwin just see a ghost or did he try the BEST TREAT EVER?! The type of treat you use should depend on what you’re training and WHAT YOUR DOG ENJOYS! That’s right! You need to get to know your pup and what makes him extra wiggly when he eats it!! Get in touch for questions! Happy training

What is so SPOOKY to me is that people still use pain to train. Like whyyy?? Positive Reinforcement training takes a lot of patience & consistency, but isn’t it worth it to have a HAPPY DOG? When I see a dog out & about in a shock collar AND/OR prong collar, the dog may seem SUPER calm... but what you are observing is a dog that is totally SHUT DOWN and most likely sad... breaks my heart. However! Research keeps coming out with study after study supporting positive reinforcement training! You can’t argue with science! Kindness always wins Get in touch with questions. Happy training!

I LOVE training pups to come when called! It should be FUN for your dog to come to you! You can see that Mo is observing something, so I put his recall training to the test! Look how happy he is to come to me. When you call your puppy to you, ONLY GOOD THINGS SHOULD HAPPEN TO HIM! Listen to my tone of voice when I ASK Mo to come to me. It is CHEERFUL I personally like to train and automatic sit with recall, so if you need your dog to stay with you, or leash him up he has been practicing sit when he comes to you. Recall training can save your dogs life! Please get in touch with any questions. Happy training!

Taking a play break to practice sit/stay with the distraction of each other Having play dates for your puppy is important of course!! In addition to healthy play dates, add quick training session in between play! This teaches your pup to listen to you even with fun distractions, to be calm around other dogs, and helps your pup develop into a polite adult. All good things! **Before training together, Theo, Bella, and Nellie all had one on one training with me before I made it more challenging by having them together** Always set your puppy up for success!! Happy training

Keep. Training. FUN! Your dog is more likely to retain his training if you keep your training sessions fun for your pup, and also finish each session with something your dog LOVES! Each dog is different. My dog Copper ends each session with some fetch, her favorite thing! Happy training
