Chaqala is a Barwar village that is yet to have homes rebuilt, but the resilient farmers still make the long trip north to cultivate their land. Mesopotamian Night - Arizona meets tonight to discuss the upcoming programs in 2021! Assyrian Aid Society of America’s Mesopotamian Night Project promotes Assyrian arts and culture and provides a venue for Assyrian artists and musicians to showcase their talents. Since 2007, the Mesopotamian Night Project has not only made a significant contribution to the production, documentation and revival of Assyrian music in various forms (classical, opera, folklore and pop music) and promoted Assyrian visual arts, but has raised the necessary funds for its humanitarian and cultural projects. Join us tonight as the Assyrian Aid Society-Iraq (AAS-Iraq) met with local Assyrian teachers earlier this year, sharing their experiences with the Assyrian Education System. Today, given the challenges that come with the COVID-19 spread, some classes are being held virtually with the hope of bringing all grades back to school soon by rotating between different shifts throughout the day. With support from the Assyrian Cultural Foundation of Illinois, AAS-Iraq provided support to these teachers whose salaries have gone unpaid or underpaid by the local and national governments in the Nuhadra and Erbil governorates. Education has been a critical mission of the Assyrian Aid Society of America (AAS-A) since inception. Decades of conflict in Iraq and the hardships that the Assyrian schools in particular have faced continue to severely the Assyrian education system and its students. It is very important that our people who own those lands by inheritance come forward to claim them, AAS-Iraq President Ashur Eskrya said.
