October is #FilipinoAmericanHistoryMonth! Filipinos have made many significant contributions to our nation. In the late '60s and '70s, many Filipinos left their native country to help fill jobs within the U.S. health industry. Today, 20% of registered nurses in California are Filipino, and one in four Filipino adults in New York and New Jersey work in healthcare. This year, we’d like to thank our heroic Filipino American healthcare workers who work tirelessly to save lives... amidst a global pandemic. We’d also like to give a special thank you to someone close to the #AAAZATeam, Simon Flores Tongco, the son of our Administrator Milet Flores, for his tireless efforts as an ICU nurse. #FAHM2020

The second woman to ascend to the nation’s highest court, #RuthBaderGinsburg lived up to her nickname Notorious RBG and has left a powerful mark during her 27-years of service on the U.S. Supreme Court. Her advocacy for gender equality, affirmative action and desire to remedy racial disparities has provided a foundation for many of the rights we have been given and are still fighting for today. Rest in power RBG. To learn more about her life and achievements, stream the documentary RBG on Hulu or Amazon Video.

Did you know that September 11th is also known as "Patriot Day in the United States? Each year millions of Americans dedicate this day to remembering the nearly 3,000 lives lost during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Across the U.S., people volunteer in honor of the fallen, first responders and countless heroes who risked their lives saving others. If you’re looking for a way to pay tribute from the safety of your home there are many organizations that need help such as Give Ess...ential, a donor-matching organization that sends care packages directly to an essential worker in need. #AAAZA would like to say thank you to the many individuals who demonstrated enormous strength and compassion during 9/11 as well as to today’s #essentialworkers who keep us safe and our country running during the pandemic. #PatriotDay #Neverforget https://bit.ly/3bNIvNZ

When we were told to stay home, they got up, got dressed and went out into the world... often doing invisible but, yes, essential work. Michele Norris Since the onset of COVID-19, millions of essential workers have stepped up to perform crucial services. As we get ready to celebrate Labor Day, we recognize that not everyone gets to take a day off. We are so grateful for all the essential workers who keep our country running. And remember, the most important way you can help keep essential workers safe is to stay home! Happy #LaborDay from the #AAAZATeam!
