SCAM ALERT! SHARE!! I worked with a customer recently and he mentioned he needed his printer looked at and though he’d call the manufacturer so hegoogled the number. He proceeded to call the first number on the list that said it was SUPPORT for that particular company. When the technician answered the phone the customer explained the problem and the technician never asked for a serial number to check on warranty or anything else that any other manufacturer support p...ersonnel would normally do. That was the first RED FLAG. Next, he asked the customer to go to a website link in order for him to see the problem first hand. This link would allow the technician to take full charge and control the computer with the printer problem directly. That was the second RED FLAG. At this point the customer thinks he’s working with someone legitimately working for the printer company which is not the case. The gentleman installed different programs to connect to the system at anytime and the computer needed to be completely wiped out and the data had to be saved in order to remove these stealth remote control programs. When calling anyone regarding your computer problems and technical issues they will first ask for model and then SERIAL number. The only way they won’t ask for this info is if they don’t have access to it or you are paying for support. This companies, unfortunately, don’t normally offer support if it has been over a year since the date of purchase. Beware and don’t get taken as you can compromise your own personal data and/or customers’ data if it’s accesible to the scammer. Deciding on whether or not to buy a new computer because you have a desktop/laptop that is 2, 3, even 6 yrs old..?
