As more families need food, we're seeing a 50% decrease of volunteers for our programs. We need 50% more to meet the need for all. If you're able, please sign up for a shift or share this post to spread the word. Sign up for a shift here: https://volunteering.sfmfoodbank.org/

Your vote this election cycle can help decide the future of life-saving programs like CalFresh, can affect how many kids get access to school meals, and can ensure that putting policies in place to end hunger is a priority for lawmakers. If you haven't filled out your ballot yet check out the survey our policy and advocacy team conducted of local San Francisco candidates to learn how those on the ballot plan to end hunger in our community: http://ow.ly/QMf850BZfkr

The pandemic has put the health of our seniors at risk. That’s why we’ve started a new, temporary Pantry at Home program to ensure that our participants who are 65+ years old can have fresh, nourishing food while they shelter-in-place without risking exposure to the virus. We'd like to express our gratitude for your responses to our calls for volunteers! In the past two weeks, we’ve started to fill 1,500 shifts a week! That’s up from 1,000 at the end of September. But that is still shy of the roughly 2,000 we need. Saturday shifts are now full, but we still need support Monday through Friday at Pop-up pantries and delivering groceries. Please consider signing up if you are able: https://volunteering.sfmfoodbank.org/happening-soon/

Election day is a week away and who we elect matters. The crisis has only highlighted how vital food assistance programs are for the 40% of Americans who already lack enough savings to cover a $400 emergency expense. As you may have noticed in your local grocery store or farmer's market, it was a spotty tomato season this year. Despite that we still distributed an average of 8,600 pounds of tomatoes a week from June - October. Add it all up and tomato season at the Food Bank came out to 117,375 pounds. That's a lot of tomatoes! . . . #foodbank #freshproduce #farmtofamily #endhunger #tomatoseason #food4all #foodforall

For many families, volunteering is a way to spend time together while giving back. For many students, volunteering is a way to see some friends with school out of session. One young volunteer, Leo, talked to us about why he volunteers and what it’s like starting middle school during a pandemic. Read more: http://ow.ly/fcBY50C1mlm
