Today was a huge day in California. Our 50+1 Strategies team is honored to be supporting Black, Latinx, AAPI, women, and student civil rights advocates who have... been fighting to overturn the affirmative action ban for decades. We made massive progress today. Next stop- CA State Senate and then the November ballot!

Our team at 50+1 Strategies has been channelling our anger around police brutality and systemic racism into organizing with some bad-ass leaders and coalitions. The effort to repeal California's ban on affirmative action, Proposition 209, has been one of the top priorities for Black leaders (as well as many Latino/a, AAPI, women's groups, student groups and more) for over twenty years. Affirmative action (in education, contracting, etc.) is one way that we can truly counter... systemic racism and open up opportunity to all. The Opportunity for All Coalition has been hustling to get support from 2/3 of the CA State Assembly and Senate to get a repeal of Prop 209 on this November's ballot and the final vote on this will go down next week. Want to take action today? Call, write and Tweet at your State Assemblymember TODAY and tell them to support ACA 5, which is Assemblymember Dr. Shirley Weber's bill to repeal California's ban on affirmative action (Prop 209). We’re more than thrilled to welcome back Jessica Lovejoy to our team! Starting with 50+1 Strategies in 2013, Jessica helped progressive candidates and causes win across the country and ran our Midwest office for years. She returns to our team after working on the presidential primary and is now based out of Washington, D.C.! We look forward to working with the brilliant and talented Jessica Lovejoy again as we expand our work and make an even bigger impact!

ANNIVERSARY PARTY UPDATE: After further reviewing public health guidelines from the Mayor’s office and Centers for Disease Control, and discussing the issue more internally, we’ve decided to cancel our 50+1 Strategies’ 8th Anniversary Party that was scheduled for Tomorrow (Tuesday, 3/10) at Manny's. While we’re incredibly proud of our work over the last year and always love a good party, public health guidelines are calling for the cancellation of non-essential events that ...involve 10 or more people our party certainly would have qualified. We encourage you to read through new public health guidelines from the SF Department of Health: https://www.sfdph.org/dph/alerts/coronavirus-faq.asp Finally, while our party is cancelled, we’re still raising $2020 for the Latino Community Foundation please chip in here: https://www.facebook.com/donate/218278135994553/ They’re doing amazing work to mobilize and empower Latino voters and drive census-taking in hard-to-count communities. As LCF reminded us on Super Tuesday: Wash your hands and vote! Thanks for being part of the 50+1 community we hope you stay healthy and happy in the coming weeks. Nicole, Addisu, Salim, Alfredo, Candice, Andrew, and the entire 50+1 Strategies Team
