Who 8th grade and up What In a collaboration between UC Merced Library and 4-H participants will use digital tools to examine and analyze historical objects found in the UC Cooperative Extension Archives dating back to 1916.... Using the archives, youth will learn to look for an analyze data, identify research topics, and create digital exhibits. Learn to use ArcGIS Story Map software and other digital tools. Summary of Webinar: Please join the Region 5 Youth Preparedness Council for a webinar to learn about the importance of cybersecurity and resources needed to engage safely online. Data shows that three in five children use Internet-based devices in their homes, and it’s estimated that children between 8 and 18 spend about 45 hours per week online numbers that have most likely increased during stay-at-home orders. With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic changing the way learn and socialize it is critical for you to identify steps you can take to protect yourself when you connect online. The Internet can provide a wide range of fun activities from social media to gaming and shopping; but, as youth surpass their parents in tech savviness, their digital profiles can easily become a target for cyber criminals. Learn the basics of good cyber hygiene from expert guest speakers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) who will help clarify common questions and discuss the resources youth need to be safer and more secure online.

Looking for free WiFi locations? Several partner organizations have announced the launch of the American Connection Project (ACP) interactive Wi-Fi map https://www.americanconnection.io. The map provides a free resource to help the public locate more than 2,300 free Wi-Fi locations across 49 U.S. states. The map includes Wi-Fi locations from Land O’Lakes, Inc. and its ag retail owner network, along with several partner organizations including National 4-H Council and Cooperat...ive Extension (providing half the locations), and many other corporations. The Wi-Fi map is an extension of efforts undertaken by the American Connection Project to drive meaningful progress toward closing the digital divide to create opportunities and reduce digital inequality for rural and urban communities in the United States. The map is designed to provide immediate but temporary access in service to all who live in the United States who lack access to the internet today. Throughout the next several months, additional locations will be added to the map. See more
