Growing food for our community has taught me one important thing after another. So far I’ve learned, it’s more than just lettuce we’re growing. Yes, we are growing the best nutrient dense organic vegetables in Broderick, but more importantly, we’re growing minds and opportunities for our youth and future leaders. #educatedontincarcerate #buildschoolsnotprisons #7generations #futurefarmers #westsacurbanfarm #native #indiginous #landback

Pronounced whee-tla-KO-cheh, huitlacoche is also known as corn mushroom, corn smut or Mexican truffle. It is a fungus, which randomly grows on organic corn (not sprayed with any fungicide). It is rare, as it develops on the corn ears as they ripen after the rainy season or an errant rainstorm. Blessings upon blessings. #native #indigenousfarmers #foodsovereignty #westsacurbanfarms #schoolsnotprisons

Growing strong at River City Farm in West Sacramento, California. Eight beds of garlic, three broccoli and two cauliflower planted. Eggplant, sweet & hot peppers are still producing as well as the butternut squash. Giving thanks to the land for the abundance of blessings we receive. #nativepride #indigenous #farmerjustice #schoolsnotprisons
