So this trio of baby panthers was found abandoned behind an elderly lady’s apt. building. She took them in but can’t keep them so we need a few fosters to pleas...e step up. They’re sweeties who didn’t deserve to be dumped like trash & another example of why fixing cats is the only real cure to too many strays, abandonment, abuse, overcrowded shelters & rescues. We’re grateful we have neighbors who do what it takes to help make sure they’re safe even overnight, but they’ll need to start their medical care, a safe foster home & a responsible paw parent who understands what a forever home means. So Dinky did a very brief stint with a potential paw parent over Christmas, but the change of venue freaked him out & in less than 3 days his adopter decided to... return him to his foster mom. Did Dinky need more time to adjust, absolutely but if a potential paw parent doesn’t feel 100% we never shame. As you can see Dinky settled back in at his foster home instantly & was thrilled to pose for #nye2021 photos with his foster mom. He’s a totally terrific little dude who loves people, other cats but needs some time to adjust to new digs. Dinky’s a teenager, meaning he’s about 6 months old, he would be dandy as a solo kitty if you have time to devote to play & enrichment, or he’d be a terrific play buddy for a lonely solo kitty. His foster mom snapped him up the second we realized he had no business going back to the street. It took about a day for Dinky to fall in love with Ericka’s 3 kitties so we know he’ll do fine as long as his paw parent can ride out the transition phase & gives him time. Heaps of thanks to @sandyhawkinsofficial for doing a live Catmas concert fundriaser on @bandsintown! We’re lucky that @fixnation spays & neuters the TNR kitt...ies for free, but we’re on the hook for whatever medical care is required for all the love nuggets we find out on the street when we’re doing the #trapneuterreturn. Every kitty we rescue equals about $80-100 just for the basic stuff like testing, spay or neuter, vaccinations, flea & internal parasite treatment. We also have to feed each TNR cat while they’re held for recovery & this year, that added up to almost 2,000 cans of Friskie’s. We love you @sandyhawkinsofficial for helping us help the kitties of L.A.

Reality bites. Friendly cats don’t fall from the sky, people dump them. It’s called abandonment & we’ve never seen anything like what’s been happening over the ...last couple of months to sweet cats. Our reality is, we can’t go rounding up friendly cats that suddenly appear at public places, downtown L.A. where we know they didn’t just wander from home, where there are feral cats we’ve fixed, people who know all the cats & know this sweet cats that’s meowing for attention wasn’t there a few days ago. We can’t take these cats to the shelter, it’s not kosher for a rescue to surrender cats but again, the reality is we have no place to put all these cats, our fosters aren’t hoarders. We also don’t have the cash sitting around to vet all these cats. Reality is, we kind of need people to step up & be the rescue. We’ll gladly extend our rescue discount if you use our rescue vet, but we can’t cover the bill. We already fix a lot of cats, we do high volume TNR & we try to be a safety net for the babies who have no business being on the street. We try to help adult cats when we can but this is just outta control. No, we’re not gonna just hand out cats & kittens to the 1st person who raises their hand because we don’t want any cat or kitten back on the street because the adopter didn’t understand what forever means. Bottom line, we care a lot, we try really hard to do responsible rescue work, but there’s a limit. It’s not fair to the animals who need help to sugar coat this, it’s really bad out on the street, there’s a lot of animals that need someone to help them now.
