This tractor/trailer crossed the scale at Otay Mesa and was determined to be overweight. The company was directed to make the load legal before being allowed to leave the facility. A short time later, the frame failed causing the load to fall to the ground. Fortunately this happened in our facility and not on the freeway. ***UPDATE*** In reviewing the security camera footage, it appears the failure occurred after X4/5 were slid to the rear and the extra weight of a forkli...ft was added to the trailer. The scaled weight at the time was: X1: 11060, X2/3: 36260, X4/5: 30560. Este camion y remolque cruzaron la vascula de Otay Mesa y se determino que estaban sobrepeso. Se le aviso a la compania que ajustaran la carga para que estuviera legal. Durante el movimiento de la carga fallo el remolque y la carga callo al piso. Afortunadamente esto paso aqui y no en la carretera. ***MAS INFORMACION*** Despues de revisar el video de las camaras de seguridad se ve que el remolque fallo despues de que los ejes X4 y X5 se recorrieron hasta atras y luego entro un montecargas. El peso de ejes era X1: 11060, X2/X3: 36260, y X4/X5: 30560.

*UPDATE* The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the State of California have granted an extension for expired commercial driver licenses. This extension includes Federal Mexican commercial driver licenses issued by the Secretaria de Transportacion (SCT) and is valid until September 30, 2020. This extension is ONLY valid for commercial driver licenses which expired on or after March 1, 2020. We are aware that the SCT will be closed until December and have ...forwarded that information for consideration for an additional extension. *ACTUALIZACION* La Administración Federal de Seguridad del Transportista de Motores (FMCSA) y el Estado de California ha concedido una extensión para las licencias de conducir comerciales caducadas. Esta extencion la cual incluye las licencias de conducir comerciales mexicanas emitidas por la Secrataria de Transportacion (SCT) licencias federales de conducer seran validas hasta el 30 de septiembre de 2020. Esta extensión es sólo bueno para las licencias de conducir que expirarón en o después del 1 de marzo de 2020. Estamos conscientes de que el SCT permanecerá cerrado hasta diciembre y hemos remitido esa información para su consideración para una prórroga adicional.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has sent the CHP 100,000 masks to be distributed at all of our commercial facilities. CHP - Otay Mesa began handing out masks to drivers at Otay Mesa and Tecate on May 7, and will continue as long as supplies last. Today one of Officers was assisting a motorist who spun out and was involved in a non-injury collision when a separate motorist spun out and collided with the ...unoccupied patrol car. Thankfully the Officer was not injured, but the motorist who struck the patrol car sustained moderate injuries. FMCSA CDL WAIVER 3.24.20 CHP-Otay Mesa has received multiple questions regarding expired driver licenses and medical certificates. Pursuant to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) waiver, effective immediately: Commercial drivers with a driver license and/or medical certificate that expired on or after March 1, 2020 are eligible for the waiver and may continue driving until June 30, 2020. Commercial drivers with a driver license and/or medical certificat...e that expired before March 1, 2020 are subject to normal enforcement action. This waiver includes drivers from USA, Mexico and Canada. Currently, there are no planned changes in operations and CHP-Otay Mesa / Tecate will be conducting business as usual. There are no anticipated border closures for commercial traffic at this time.
