First of all, I want to thank everyone who has been working on the frontline of the COVID-19 response and the protestors who continue to advocate for change and racial equality. 2020 has been a transformative year and I truly feel for anyone who has been negatively impacted. After shifting focus in recent months, I would like to officially share that 1805 Gallery will suspend all on-site programming at the gallery space in Little Italy. 1805 Gallery will continue to support t...he arts through remote curating, consulting and programming that will extend to exhibition sites beyond San Diego while also embracing the digital realm. Thank you all for supporting the incredible artists in our community over the years. I look forward to sharing upcoming projects with you soon! For those interested in renting the studio space please contact me directly. 1805 Gallery Director| Curator |Artist , Lauren Siry

Catalina Bellizzi-Itiola’s Neural Pathways is a series that celebrates recent advances in brain imaging. It has allowed us to get a better look at the brain’s architecture, which reveals that neural pathways are far more structured than once previously thought, despite how random and disorganized thinking may often feel. The creation of these pieces was a meditative exercise, imagining the pathways of anxious thoughts in an effort to slow and redirect them. Neural Pathways 1...-6,2019. Justin McHugh’s work deconstructs the myth of the Marlboro Man through collage and video installation-- a truly American figure, manufactured to represent freedom, manifest destiny, and rugged masculinity-- while simultaneously concealing and coercing a cancerous, addictive product. . This series is a reflection, a meditation on the western notion of complete power or control over the landscape, exploring the consequences of manifest destiny, and exposing the semiotics of ad...vertising and addiction. . Justin A McHugh lives and works in San Diego, and is a BFA candidate at UCSD. His work often appropriates or assimilates familiar imagery, in ways that cause the viewer to question their preconceived notions of truth and of myth. . . . While galleries are closed, I will be sharing art from the archive of exhibitions I have visited in the past. Enjoy! Victoria Miro Mayfair, London UK Maria Nepomuceno | SIM | November 2016... Multicolour beads, nylon rope, paint brushes, terra cotta, dried gourds and fabricated ceramic spheres, these are just a few materials and objects that coexist within Maria Nepomuceno’s sculptures exhibiting in Sim. Sim, meaning ‘yes’ in Portuguese signifies a positive affirmation and openness to new beginnings. Nepomuceno births faux organisms that resemble elements of nature, plants, animals, cosmos and human beings. As a Brazilian artist living and working in Rio De Janeiro, she is influenced by the world around her and utilizes traditional methods of rope weaving and straw braiding to communicate the importance of the past, present and future. Her womb-like structures maintain a warm earthy tone that is contrasted by the chromatically rich beaded rope that burst from the open vessels. The entangling ropes that spiral throughout the bulbous forms reference tree branches and umbilical cords. Recalling the spiral forms found within Louise Bourgeois’ work, Nepomuceno identifies the spiral as infinite transformation that can function as a meditative force producing pure vital energy. Sourcing material from the forests of Brazil and Carnival shops, Nepomuceno interweaves a diverse range of materials to celebrate the intersecting human culture, body and Mother Earth. - Lauren Siry @victoriamirogallery #marianepomuceno #victoriamiro #virtualexhibition #artist #femaleartists #motherearth @ Victoria Miro Mayfair
