We would like to recognize Juvenile Detention Officer Esmeralda Lopez as Madera Probation's Employee of the Quarter! Officer Lopez is always positive and willing to share her ideas to promote pro-social behavior with our youth. During this pandemic, when most of our program providers had to decrease services, staff like Officer Lopez have come up with creative ideas for alternative programming. Officer Lopez has contributed to the Juvenile Detention Facility Reading Incen...tive Program by donating additional books. Officer Lopez also facilitated the American Flag project by working with the youth to make flag designs using wooden pallets. She assisted with the Sky’s the Limit hot air balloon arts/crafts project as well as community service during the pandemic to clean up the cemetery. Officer Lopez is always a team player who is respected by her peers and the youth she works with. Great job Officer Lopez and thank you for all you do for the facility, the youth you redirect and for the probation department! See more

Remembering the victims... STATEMENT OF U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE PRINCIPAL DEPUTY ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL, KATHARINE T. SULLIVAN, COMMEMORATING NATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR MURDER VICTIMS... In commemoration of the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims, designated by Congress in 2007, September 25th, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Katharine T. Sullivan issued the following statement: Today, the Office of Justice Programs joins the families of murder victims and citizens across the country in remembering the thousands of Americans who have tragically lost their lives to murder. During the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims, we are reminded of the many cherished lives taken by violent criminals every year. Every murder dramatically affects family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers and communities at large forever transforming their lives. Losing a loved one to murder causes excruciating agony and leaves an unimaginable void that lingers long after the news coverage ends. Survivors must also confront the wrenching and protracted ordeal of a criminal investigation and trial, which constantly reopens searing emotional wounds. Yet we take heart in knowing that strength can be found in the comfort offered by compassionate victim service providers and peer support programs throughout the nation, many of them funded by our Office for Victims of Crime. They can be a beacon of hope in the darkest of hours. I am also eternally grateful to our nation’s law enforcement officers and prosecutors who are so essential to the pursuit of justice and the safety of our communities. We stand as a nation with the families and friends who have suffered this gravest of losses, assuring them that we will never forget.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff at the Madera Correctional Academy, along with some of the youth, for creating these handmade USA flags placed in the lobby of our Juvenile Detention Facility, as well as in the Correctional Academy gardens. Every year the staff have been doing something with the youth to commemorate 9/11. This year these USA flags were created out of old pallets. These flags were put up on 9/11 this year and will remain in these locations for the rest of the month of September in remembrance of 9/11. Great job everyone!
