Our very own Robert Martinez, a 10th grader in the Magnet, has been selected to participate in the 2019 GRAMMY Camp! This is a very prestigious honor, since only 90 high school students were selected from seventy four cities across twenty three states. Robert is one of only three bass players chosen! Robert is a member of our Marching Band, where he plays drums and saxophone. Kudos to his music teacher, Mr. Raj Samaroo, for making such an impact in Robert's development a m...usician. According to the GRAMMY Camp website (http://www.grammyintheschools.com/programs/grammy-camp): GRAMMY Camp is a FIVE-day nonresidential summer music industry program for high school students interested in having a career in music. Hosted on the campus of USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles, students from across the country apply for one of the eight offered career tracks. GRAMMY Camp faculty of music professionals as well as guest industry professionals provide valuable insight to give the campers the best chance at achieving success in their chosen career. Congratulations, Robert! We are all very proud of you!

Sylmar Charter High School has been selected to participate in the Amazon Future Engineer Program, a program that will be offered in the 2019-2020 academy year in partnership with Amazon and Edhesive. A cornerstone of this program is a new course, AP Computer Science A Java, which helps students develop a foundational understanding in core computer science and programming concepts. Sylmar Charter High School's first Competitive Cheer victory!! With hard work and dedication, our thirteen athletes hit the mat determined to bring home First Place at Regionals! Sylmar Unified Basketball Team took 3rd place at the Division 2 City Playoffs. These exceptional athletes are team players on the court and off. Our Sylmar student, Abigail Miranda, was selected to be a part of a FOX TV segment about the possible funding cut for after school programs. She spoke about why after school programs are important for students and how it impacts her life. She did a fantastic job today! Everyone enjoyed her story and was really touched by what she said. I had some people tell me that they were about to cry when she was talking about how much after school programs means to her. They really enjoyed that she brought such a heart felt emotion to the segment. Attached are some photos! The segment will air this Sunday on channel 11 at 9:00 am and on channel 13 at 12:00 pm. You can also watch it online in case you miss it!
