Watch out for those buggy hitchhikers when you walk through grasses as tall as you! At least it's not a tick. Praying mantis picked up surveying at Salt Point State Park this week.
Two weeks surveying all that Pt. Reyes has to offer. Rain, wind, sun, cows, elk, elephant seals, and of course the beach with a lot of ice plant.
Three days of survey in Pt. Reyes was a whirlwind with the weather, ticks, and PO. Can't wait for more in the new year!
Visiting Joshua Tree National Park this evening before the rain started. The desert smells so good in the rain.
Fall 2019 CRM Interns: Abi Bennett, Margaret O'Leary, Heather Warner, James Peterson, Elaini Vargas, and Sam Dollinger, Chris Lloyd and Issac Davis.
CRM interns surveying out at Cache Creek testing a predictive model for the ASC and BLM. A long bush-whacking hike back to the cars was a T2 experience (not fun at the time, but fun to think about later). Abi Bennett, Margaret O'Leary, Heather Warner, James Peterson, Elaini Vargas, Issac Davis, Sam Samantha Dollinger, and Chris Lloyd.
We're off to Death Valley! Tucki Mine here we come! Recording and evaluating mining landscapes has become one of the ASC's specialties. Let us know what your favorite mine site is in the comments.
Survey of post-fire areas of Bouverie Preserve with graduate student interns. We had some weird weather that week, hot, dry, windy, then cold and cloudy within 4 days.
Our new crop of interns getting their feet wet in California Archaeology.
It's that time of the year!!! Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!
New ASC mascot? Meet our Director Tom's new puppy, Zed the tiny and fiesty!
Five students, ages 10-13, learned the basics of an archaeological fieldwork at our teaching site last week. They surveyed, surface collected, excavated, screened, sorted, and washed. They even drew their favorite artifact to scale.
Robert, Sydni, and Bee have been getting some salvage archaeology experience with Far Western all week. Great job guys!
