Did the Kingdom Come with Power on Pentecost? In Acts 2 the Spirit came with power (Acts 1:8; 2:4f). Jesus was now both LORD and CHRIST (Messiah, King) (v.36).... Jesus was raised up to sit on his throne(v.30). Jesus was exalted to the right hand of God (v.33). Jesus said the Spirit would come with power and the kingdom would come with power (Mark 9:1) and that the kingdom would come within the lifetime of some of those standing there. So, the kingdom would come with power within the lifetime of some standing there. Did the kingdom come with power on Pentecost? Yes! 3,000 were translated out of darkness and into the kingdom of God’s dear Son (Col.1:13). 3,000 were born of the water and the Spirit (John 3:1-6) which is how you enter the kingdom (Acts 2:37-41). 3,000 submitted to the rule of Jesus who was king of kings, and Lord of Lords long before AD 70 (1 Tim.6:14-16), and were translated into the kingdom long before AD 70. (Col.1:13). The kingdom came with the Spirit in Acts 2, else no one was in the kingdom until 40 years later (according to our AD 70 brethren). The Spirit and kingdom came with power on the day of Pentecost. Jesus would be a priest upon His throne (Zechariah 6:13). Jesus was a priest on His throne long before AD 70. In fact, Jesus was priest and Lord and KING of kings when He went back to heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. If Jesus was not king over his kingdom, and the kingdom did not come with the power of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost, then Jesus was not priest on His throne on the day of Pentecost and Jesus could do nothing about the sins of the 3,000. They would have to turn to the Levitical priests until Jesus could be priest on His throne. But, forgiveness of sins was now in Jesus’ name because Jesus was priest on His throne on the day of Pentecost. So, since the Spirit was guiding the apostles with POWER to use the keys of the kingdom (Matt.16:19), and the apostles used the keys to open the door to the kingdom on the day of Pentecost, then the kingdom was present with power on the day of Pentecost. Further, at the supper table before Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, He told them He would drink the fruit of the vine in the Lord’s supper new with you in My Father’s kingdom(Matt.26:29). They drank it new with Jesus in the kingdom on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:42). The Lord’s supper is described as communion of the blood of Christ (1 Cor.10:16). There is POWER in the blood of Christ, and the POWER of the kingdom includes the door to communion with the blood of Christ. That powerful blood became available and applied to 3,000 Jews on the day of Pentecost. Therefore, the kingdom came with Power of the Spirit and power of the blood of Jesus. They did not wait for 40 more years to see the power of the Spirit and the power of the blood. They saw the kingdom come with Spirit power and with blood-of-Jesus power to forgive sins and translate people into the kingdom of God’s dear son. They saw the king ruling hearts and the great High Priest mediating their forgiveness on the day of Pentecost. The kingdom was present with transforming power and forgiveness power 40 years before AD 70. This is not refutable. Now, there is a future aspect of this kingdom. We are subject to a body of corruption in this phase of the kingdom. There is a future and eternal aspect of this kingdom that came with power on the day of Pentecost. That future phase is when this corruptible body is raised and changed to inhabit an eternal and incorruptible body (1 Cor.15). So, the last enemy that Jesus will put down is death (1 Cor.15:22ff). He is reigning now but has one last enemy, death, and when He puts down that last enemy, there with be no death because we will no longer have corruptible bodies. That is the future phase of the present kingdom. So, the present kingdom entered on the day of Pentecost is waiting for the redemption of our body (Rom.8:23), the eternal and incorruptible body, the eternal phase of the kingdom of God (Heb.12:28). That eternal phase did not happen in AD 70. We are still groaning and waiting for that last enemy to be put down. Are you in the kingdom of Jesus? If not, you are lost and need to be born again. Can we help you?-Terry W. Benton

And takethe sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Eph. 6:17) SWORD TIPS #1157 (August 16, 2017) 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you wer...e called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. (Ephesians 4:46, NKJV) This is God’s platform of unity for the church of Christ. There is one body, or church, not many churches (denominations) that establish division among believers. There is one Spirit, who leads us and unites us by the gospel truth He revealed, inspired and confirmed. There is one hope reserved in heaven for Christians; not the hope of an idyllic earth for all of humanity (1 Peter 1:3-5). Unity is arranged under the authority of one Lord; Jesus Christ (Acts 2:34-36). Unity is preserved when we do all things by His authority (Colossians 3:17). We do not write or accept creeds to elucidate unity the faith that was once for all delivered is our sufficient guide (Jude 3). The Great Commission baptism of repentant believers for the remission of sins is the only baptism God recognizes (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:37-38; 8:35-38). All other baptisms introduce error and cause division. We have one Father who is in heaven; not many clerical fathers on earth (Matthew 23:9). God, our heavenly Father, is sovereign over all things. He pervades and sustains all things. He dwells among His people (Ephesians 2:22). Let us unite on truth. This is the unity for which Jesus prayed (John 17:20-21).

GOD'S DEFINITION OF A GOOD MAN by Rod Halliburton You’ve probably heard someone refer to someone else as a good man. But what exactly is meant by such a descr...iption of a person? In Jeremiah 5:1, God told Jeremiah to see if he could find a good man. The remainder of the fifth chapter of Jeremiah describes God’s definition of a good man. FIRST, a good man is one who is careful in his dealings with others (5:1.) The ASV renders this as one who doeth justly. Justice is to be determined, not by what is right in our own eyes, but in light of what is in accordance with God’s law (Psalm 119:66.) The man whom God considers a good man is one who is fair and honest in his dealings with others. Those in the early church were said to be having favor with all the people because of the exemplary lives they led (Acts 2:47.) SECOND, a good man is one who is committed to seeking the truth (5:1.) Because of his desire for the truth, his interest in what is right is greater than his interest in who is right. A good man is one who places a high value upon the truth (John 8:32, I Corinthians 13:6, I Timothy 3:15, II Timothy 2:15, I Peter 1:22.) THIRD, a good man is careful in his speech (5:2.) A good man’s speech is consistent with his lifestyle. A good man is one who speaks the truth. A good man is one who keeps his word, never making promises he is incapable of keeping or has no intentions of keeping (Deuteronomy 23:23, Matthew 5:33-37, James 5:12.) FOURTH, a good man is one who receives correction (5:3-5.) God’s chastisement is a manifestation of his love for us. God’s chastisement serves to correct our faults, strengthen our faith, and help prepare us for eternity. FIFTH, a good man is morally pure (5:7-8.) One of the many lessons we learn from the book of Jeremiah is that apostasy always leads to moral decay. As Christians, we are to shine as lights in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation (Philippians 2:15.) SIXTH, a good man places his confidence in God (5:17, 24.) The people of Jeremiah’s day foolishly placed their confidence in their walled cities. David wrote that God would be his rock and his fortress (Psalm 18:2.) As Christians, we are to trust in the Lord with all our hearts (Proverbs 3:5-6.) SEVENTH, a good man is one who is concerned with the welfare of others (5:28.) The people in Jeremiah’s day were consumed with satisfying their own desires. As Christians, we must be concerned with those who are less fortunate than ourselves (Proverbs 31:20, Ephesians 4:28, James 1:27.)

10 THINGS SATAN LOVES AT YOUR CONGREGATION by Ben Giselbach It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize the devil is everywhere in this world. And he is tryin...g his hardest to creep into the Lord’s Church the one place that should be a haven from his handiwork. We are reminded to watch out for him: Be sober; be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (1 Pet. 5:8). Satan specializes in wreaking havoc on the Church. And he’s got his sights on your congregation. Notice some of the things he loves: APATHY. Satan loves taking away our passion for pleasing God. One of his favorite lines is, What’s the big deal? Just look at all the indifference in your congregation right now. It’s spiritual cancer. SCANDAL. Satan loves a gossipy story about an affair, a conflict of interest, greed, or woeful mismanagement. If it could make one or two families leave, or even split the church, even better. BUSYBODIES. Satan loves piling on for Christians activities which produce very little for the Kingdom. And he also loves encouraging members who always have to be doing ‘something’ (regardless of whether it is actually needed) and those who always have to be ‘in the know.’ CONFLICT. Satan loves disagreements between members, and he loves leadership meetings that get out of hand. The more trivial the subject, the better the show is for him to watch. BURNOUT. Satan loves to dishearten or exhaust a busy church member or leader. He tries to make them feel like they are no longer needed, appreciated, or capable. RUMORS. Satan loves dividing people and disrupting relationships. He looks for opportunities to plant juicy little stories true or not about other members and sometimes even entire congregations. Once a rumor is started, he sits back and watches it spread and grow larger in the process. MARRIAGE AND FAMILY DESTRUCTION. Satan loves family problems, especially if it is a key leader’s family. He offers opportunities for an affair. He encourages prodigal children. He festers hurt feelings. He knows if he can destroy the home, he can destroy the congregation. ERROR. Satan loves false doctrine (and even making the word ‘doctrine’ seem out-of-style). And a belief or teaching doesn’t have to be entirely false for it to be wrong it can be partially, or even mostly, true. Truth that may only be imbalanced, or truth that has been watered down just a little bit, is still error. Whatever it takes to disguise a wolf and lead sheep away from their Shepherd. IGNORNACE OF GOD’S WORD. Satan loves encouraging the pulpit to preach fluffy sermons, void of any real spiritual meat. He knows Scripture illuminates sin & error (cf. Psa. 119:105), and wants to keep things as dark as possible. EGOS. Satan loves pride and arrogance. He whispers things like, You’re too good to confess your sin, or, You’re too important to admit you were wrong. While we need to be aware of Satan’s schemes, the real danger is that we won’t recognize his attacks. We accept these things as being normal for every church, and thus we lower our guard and drift away unknowingly. We need to see the spiritual war for our souls and for our congregations for what it is (cf. Eph. 6:12) and snap back to reality. Fight the good fight of faith (1 Tim. 6:12) against the Evil One. Be encouraged, because Jesus has overcome the world (John 16:33). Never forget the most encouraging news of all during this fight: Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).
