From the ladies of Twegate Wamu. It is good to know they are carrying on. Everyday is a struggle for them but because of the generous donations of our friends and family they are doing well and are able to continue to provide for themselves and their children.

Update: Thanks to the generous support from our friends and family, 1 Village at a Time is very close to our goal. There are not enough words to say how much it is appreciated. The ladies are doing well and continuing to prosper with the chickens and the piggery. Enough so that they were able to add $1200 to the purchase of the land. Thank you again so much.

The women of Twegate Wamu NEED YOUR HELP to provide for their families and become a self-sustaining entity. Twegate Wamu means "Let us join together for the best!" 1 Village at a Time is a non profit (501c3) organization based in Salinas , CA and we are asking you to stand with these woman to purchase one hectare of land to expand their piggery and poultry farm! The 56 women of Twegate Wamu are abandoned or widowed women living in the rural Mukono District of Uganda, about ...25 miles from the capital city of Kampala. With an money the women had saved and an initial grant and support from our small non profit group, the women were able to rent land and start their co-op in an effort to escape poverty. Clearing the land and creating space for the animals was difficult work, all done by the women. They are now selling their pigs and delivering their eggs to local markets in the Mukono area as well as in Kampala. The women now have the opportunity to purchase one hectare of land that borders the rented farmland. Purchasing the land will enable them to acquire more animals and have land to grow feed. In addition, they will be able to start building small, safe dwellings where any woman willing to work on the farm can find housing for herself and her children. These are big dreams for single women trying to support themselves and their children in a poverty stricken area of Uganda. PLEASE SUPPORT THEM! Twegate Wamu is a marvelous example of women working to support themselves in a difficult situation when given tools to do so. Your donation will help these women purchase the land they need now. The funds donated will go directly to the Twegate Wamu project to use per their business plan. The women have set up a bank account in Kampala that can receive all donations. Members of 1 Village at a Time have traveled to Uganda and East Africa on numerous occasions over the past 10 years to provide medical supplies, to develop a water system and to support elementary schools in the area. 1 Village at a Time will send a board member to Uganda to confirm the progress of the piggery and poultry farm as the work continues. Donations can be be made to : 1Village at a Time/Action Council of Monterey County 295 Main St. #300 Salinas, CA 93901

Our project to help the beautiful women of Twegate Wamu has taken on a new urgency. If they are to become self sustaining they need to pay for the land in the next 3 months. You can help by going to our GoFundMe campaign or you can donate directly to 1Village at a Time/Action Council of Monterey County. We need 860 people to donate just $10 to reach our goal. Thank you.

The women's group in Uganda is known as Twegate Wamu Women Project Team. It stands for "let's join together for the best". Pretty cool huh? They were able to begin their project with a significant amount of money from 1 Village which also means it was started by our wonderful donors. We will continue to keep you posted
